Wineries in Walnut Creek Near The Terraces
You don’t have to travel all the way to Napa Valley to experience some of the best wines produced in the country. In fact, you don’t even have to leave your backyard. Believe it or not, there is a selection of stellar wineries in Walnut Creek that are worth a visit (or two or three), where you can while away the afternoon, sipping wine, and learning more about the production process.

Shadowbrook Winery

This award-winning winery quickly became one of the best-known in the Bay Area thanks to its stunning location and its stellar offering of wines. Set against the backdrop of picturesque Mount Diablo, the 8-acre vineyard produces a variety of wine types, including merlot, pinot melange, cabernet sauvignon, and Syrah. Book a tasting to sample five varieties that are currently available. For something extra special, opt for a private tasting; this comes with your own personal wine ambassador and helps you really dive into all you need to know about each wine.

Captain Vineyards

Come here for an experience that really takes you on a journey through the winemaking process. On the second Sunday of each month, you can take a two-hour course that teaches you all about vineyard management, wine chemistry, and even practices that help keep a winery running sustainably. This property prides itself on producing natural wines that are grown using dry farming techniques, making the crops drought resistant.

Cinque Capre Vineyards

This one may be a relative newcomer — it was established just in 2014 — but what it lacks in longevity it makes up for in quality and flavor … not to mention its picture-perfect panoramas of the surrounding Rheem Valley. Here, the name of the game is quality over quantity, so the grapes are hand-picked and wines are meticulously aged for two years in French oak barrels before hitting the market. Set up an appointment to visit the tasting room to learn more about their winemaking process and, if you’re lucky, you may even get a chance to meet the property’s namesake pet goats. (Cinque Capre means “five goats” in Italian.)
